What is Swedish Institute Scholarship about?

The Swedish Institute (SI) is now launching the Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP), a new scholarship program that replaces Swedish Institute Study Scholarships (SISS). SISGP offers scholarships to a large number of master’s programs starting in the autumn semester 2020. It is hosted by the Swedish Higher Education Institutions and Swedish Universities

An estimated 300 scholarships will be available for the eligible students from the following countries:

Bangladesh; Bolivia; Brazil; Cambodia; Cameroon; Colombia; Ecuador; Egypt; Ethiopia; Gambia; Ghana; Guatemala; Honduras; Indonesia; Jordan; Kenya; Liberia; Malawi; Morocco; Myanmar (Burma); Nepal; Nigeria; Pakistan; Peru; Philippines; Rwanda; Sri Lanka; Sudan; Tanzania; Tunisia; Uganda; Vietnam; Zambia; Zimbabwe.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, living expenses of SEK 10,000 per month, insurance, and a one-time travel grant of SEK 15,000 (only for scholarship holders living outside Sweden). There are no additional grants for family members.

The scholarship is intended for full-time one-year or two-year master’s programs and is only awarded for programs starting in the autumn semester.

To be eligible for SISGP, you must have had at least 3,000 hours’ work experience before 3 February 2019 from a maximum of three organizations/companies. Applicants must be from an eligible country (see above). You must be able to demonstrate your previous leadership experience. The experience may be demonstrated through for instance previous work experience, or involvement in civil society organizations.

You must be liable to pay tuition fees to the universities, have paid the application fee for master’s programs at University Admissions on time before 1 February 2019, and be admitted to one of the eligible master’s programs by 3 April 2020.

You should only submit the required documents listed below in your online scholarship application.

  1. A motivation letter: you must use the SISGP form for the motivation letter 2020/2021. You need to fill in and upload the motivation letter as a PDF-file on the application portal during the application period.
  2. A Curriculum Vitae (CV): you must use the SISGP form for CV 2020/2021 and the CV should not exceed three pages.
  3. Two different letters of reference: you must use the SISGP form for letter of reference 2020/2021. At least one letter of reference must be based on your work experience. The letters should be signed by the referee and stamped with an official stamp of the referred organization or a notary office. The form(s) should be typed, then printed, signed, and stamped; and then be uploaded as one PDF-file.
  4. Proof of work and leadership experience: you must use the SISGP form for proof of work and leadership experience 2020/2021. The work and leadership form should be signed by the referee and stamped with an official stamp of the referred organization or a notary office. The form(s) should be typed, then printed, signed, and stamped; and then be uploaded as one PDF-file.
  5. A copy of your passport: your data including name, citizenship, and photograph must be shown clearly. A copy of the passport should be included together with the CV as a last fourth page.

A complete application must consist of:

  1. A completed motivation letter
  2. A CV
  3. Two valid and completed letters of reference
  4. Valid and completed proof of work and leadership experience
  5. A copy of your valid passport

The application documents/forms for 2020/2021 have been deleted from this section, as the call for applications ended on 20 February. Documents for the next call (2021/2022) will be made available here in December 2020/January 2021.
